That time you can have an eye to see what's right, what's the right way, what's the right way of practicing, what is the right way. How to use, using the you, using the bicycle, and how to be one with the bicycle. So, you can understand the, if you have the right kind of eye, which is clear, you can have the practice eye. You can have eyes to see the significance of practice, very natural. So vice versa, you can practice. But if you understand what is right dharma, right dharma, right dharma is not to use objectively
[01:01]
facing the something, up. This is the first stage, second stage anyway, enjoy with it, until you can enjoy, you feel enjoy anyway using the bicycle again and again, but by the final anyway, the stage which you have to reach is, be one with the bicycle. This is anyway, the eye of anyway practice. Eye of dharma, what is right dharma, what is the right way, right way. How to live in this world as a human being, man must be man, for this, man must live with his object, wherever you may be, without object, you cannot exist as a man. So, wherever you may go with object, you cannot punch into blind immediately, so you should
[02:14]
know it, use it and enjoy it, and then go free from enjoyment, that time, this is what is called right way, right way, right dharma. If you understand that, you can practice, using our eye to see how to practice objectively, how to practice objectively. So, and then Dogen then says, the right transmission of this most important keystone in the practice turns on the power of practicing under the guidance of a great teacher with full respect, full respect. Practice under the guidance of a teacher is represented as the bukon in Japanese, bukon, bu is to offer, to offer, to devote, to devote yourself.
[03:22]
Gon, to, or to offer your heart, to offer your heart, this is bu of bukon, gon of bukon is to take trouble, to take more trouble, over serving teacher and his teaching, tora, that is practice under the guidance of teacher. To offer your heart, it doesn't mean to blind, to be blind, if you be, if you are blind, well, you can create, you could create same trouble as that in John's time, like this, or watch out, you shouldn't be blind, because you are, you as subject, you must be human,
[04:34]
anyway, you must be human, if you are human, anyway, you have to know, anyway, your object, as clear as it is, for this, anyway, understand it, using your energy, your energy, your intellect, everything, and then enjoy it, and then next, okay, next be free from that enjoyment, becoming one, that time, this is total freedom, okay, which is called kakusoku, awakening, and also this awakening is not abstract idea, this awakening is really something which enables you to be alive, neutrally. So, let me finish, anyway, this is eye, okay, this is gen of genzo, okay, gen eye of genzo,
[05:42]
you should have eye to see, anyway, right dharma, what is the right, right way, right way, right way is not the right way opposite to wrong way, okay, you understand, wrong right way is anyway dharma, dharma means, anyway, reveling, constantly under all, whatever circumstances you may be, immediately, you can keep in body, this is the basic nature of human life. So, you should have the eye to see, anyway, what is right way, right way, then, by that time, you can have the eye to practice, how to optimize, right way in your daily life, this is the right basic concept, this is eye, how to learn daily, anyway, let loose of it,
[06:50]
it feels in your hand, how to let loose of it, anyway, let's practice, under the guidance of the teacher, what is the practice, under the guidance of the teacher, it makes you blind, no, anyway, to offer your heart, and take trouble, and take more trouble over serving teacher and teacher's teaching, okay, perfect, then, by that time, you can become exactly one with, anyway, teacher's personality, virtue, same fragrance comes up from your pore, by that time, you are called student or teacher, which is called Buddha, Buddha's child. So, how can you learn this? It is completely beyond technique, anyway, you should learn the relation between teacher and, anyway, disciple.
[07:54]
This is eye, again, eye. So, it's storage, storage, Dogen then says here, speak it, and it fills your mouth. Let loose of it, it fills your hands, it is not bounded vertically or horizontally, okay, speak it, and it fills your mouth. Speak it means, anyway, speak, you can speak, not only with the mouth, okay, that, speak with, speak something with the mouth is, anyway, sort of, say, a spouse, and a frog, and in the spring field, and croaking, croaking, croaking, every day, and this is not speaking, okay, speaking with your mouth, speaking with your eyes, speaking with your nose, speaking with your whole body, speaking with each pore,
[09:00]
at that time, this is, anyway, speaking. At that time, anyway, you can get it, or what is called riding bicycle, same applied, same, riding bicycle. Riding bicycle means, can you speak while you are riding bicycle? I am riding bicycle, look at me, anyway, I will teach you, you cannot say so, okay, and you cannot explain one by one the technique how to ride, or each moment of your feeling, you can experience riding through the riding bicycle, you cannot say, anyway, keep silent, that's right. But this riding with silence has lots of language, speaking about how wonderful it is, illuminating, okay, illuminating, by which people are very natural, not technically, very naturally, inspired, and educated, cultivated.
[10:01]
That is, anyway, zō, okay, on, again, zō, okay, just ride, just sit down, that is real, it's not expressing yourself, it's really expressing you and something else, you cannot say, this is what is called hōyūn, okay, hōyūn. If you ride bicycle in peace and harmony, in a way you can express yourself totally and fully, and also all circumstances, manifestly expressing your emotions, your physical condition, mental condition, and also all circumstances, very naturally. That's why you can ride, this is very powerful. What do you mean, riding bicycle? You cannot ride bicycle with your hands, just two feet, or with your head, or with your hand,
[11:06]
you cannot ride. If you ride with your eyes, nose, mouth, ears, and your whole life, whole life and your whole circumstances, whole universe, at that time, this is called riding bicycle fully, in dynamism. Okay? That is the meaning of, anyway, genzō, eye, store. Chopo, genzō, is right tama, store of, storage of right tama, eye. It means, anyway, if you have, everyone has great ear, great eye, to see what is right way to live.
[12:07]
And to know, to actualize, how to put right way into practice. Very naturally, everyone has. Then, how? This is the, setting, such incident properly. This is crystallization human practice, generally. Setting is very unique, anyway, essence, essential practice. It really works. In every aspect of human activity, riding horse, riding bicycle, riding the car, when you ride a horse, you can ride a horse like this.
[13:09]
Do you understand? Is there anyone who has experience of riding horse? If you ride a horse, I have never heard, ride bicycle, but I can, I can imagine. If you ride a bicycle, if you want to ride a bicycle, no, the horse, okay? Straight about, okay? You should be one with a horse. Whatever kind of rhythm comes up, anyway, you should be one exactly, without creating tension or loose. Anyway, just one, okay? You're flexible, your body and mind is flexible, but not, no mind. Anyway, you're aware of everything, okay? At that time, your body and mind become flexible. The question is, when you jump, okay? What do you call, jump or something? With a horse, if you ride like this and jump, you fall down, okay?
[14:11]
Because you lose the sense of the gravity, where it is. You don't know. So you lose completely balance, okay? When you jump, okay, a certain or a hindrance, obstacle, okay? With a horse, anyway, you should ride bicycle with a straight posture. Get a little strength, lower abdomen, like this, and then you can jump. So, riding horse is exactly the way to use mind. Suddenly, suddenly, there is nothing to get in your hand. But it's really work, it's work. How to run? Let loose a bit. Let loose of your ideas, anyway. Just learn something under the guidance of teacher, anyway. Day after day, with a horse, anyway. Riding, driving airplane, walking in any way street,
[15:17]
studying the Buddhism, or studying the science, whatever it is, suddenly, anyway, works in every aspect of human life. That's why the thing is very essential, unique part. Depending to everybody. This way is very simple practice. Manifestation of simplicity in life. It seems to be simple, but it's not simple. Very hard, because we have always stinky mind. Whatever you do, always stinky mind stick out its face from a certain window,
[16:28]
which is called the vent. Immediately stinky mind comes up. Just like a jumping box. Not so easy. But you should take care of it. It's good friend with you. It is good friend. Shikantala is, anyway, the essence, essential practice, open to everybody, through which you can learn the meaning of death. Death is not death. Death is eternity. In Mahayana Buddhism, in Nirvana Sutra in Mahayana, it's concentrated on explaining what eternity is through Buddha's death. Eternity is not something spiritual, materialism.
[17:37]
It's not like that. It's not. Eternity is something which you can practice in your daily living. Simply speaking, it is called Shobo Genzo. That's all. That's why Dogen put the term Shobo Genzo to title Hachidai Ringuaku, Eight Awarenesses of the Enlightened Person. Eight kinds of awarenesses is exactly based on, anyway, Shobo Genzo. So please taste the meaning of Shobo Genzo again and again in your whole life. That time, anyway, you can understand, you can feel what Buddha's teaching is.
[18:39]
Even though you don't understand Dogen's teaching, that's okay. Don't try. Just in your daily living, chew on Dogen's teaching, Shobo Genzo. Anyway, Shobo Genzo. Chew on day after day. Very naturally. Sooner or later, it's digested in your daily living. I took two days to explain the title of Shobo Genzo because it's very important. So, for explanation of Eight Awarenesses of the Enlightened Person, you will understand a little easier to understand each item of Eight Awarenesses. Less Desire, etc. Less Desire or Satisfaction or Samadhi, etc. So you can understand.
[19:43]
And you will understand very easily. That's why I took two days to explain this title.
